Eliana’s Thoughts
This book was super funny because it only had the word dude in it! It was funny that the people were scared of the shark, but it was supposed to live under the water but it actually lived out of the water. It was super funny when they all had a lot of ice cream flavors on top of the cone! That’s why I like this book.
Natasha’s Thoughts
Dude! probably wouldn’t have been my first pick off the library shelf, but both of my kids absolutely loved it and were cracking up the entire time we read it. The entire text literally consists of one word–dude–and tells an entertaining story of a platypus and beaver who are, of course, surfers. They must overcome their fear of the shark in the ocean if they want to go surfing. This book provides a fantastic opportunity for little readers to practice their voice inflection to convey nuances in meaning, and also to glean details from the illustrations to aid their comprehension.
