In Unplugged by Steve Antony (author of the Mr. Panda books), a robot named Blip’s favorite place to be is plugged into her computer, playing games, learning, and listening to music from morning to night. One day, there is a blackout and she trips over her cord, plummeting her into the bright outside world, forcing her to make new friends and experience new adventures.

Natasha’s Review: ★★★1/2

This is a simple book that teaches kids that even though you may enjoy playing and learning via electronic devices all day, you will be missing out on the beautiful fun and friends beyond the screen. I appreciated how the illustrations changed from grays to bright colors a la The Wizard of Oz. The theme is an important one, but it was presented a bit too didactically for my taste. The storyline is too simple for the ages of children who need to learn this lesson. This is a one time read for me.

Eliana’s review: ★★★★★

So it said that Blip liked to be plugged into her computer. On her computer, she learned new things and she played games and danced to music and visited faraway places. There was a blackout and she got unplugged. She got outside and she met some new friends. I liked the part when her new friends gave her a flower because she had to leave them. That’s very kind. It’s not good to work on your computer all the time because even if you work, work, work and learn on the computer all day, you still need to have some fun!
